Current gen AI is unsustainable and there will be fallout of the eventual disappointment

It seems most people are on board with the idea that AI will change the world. While I agree it having some impact, I also think it is overinflated by marketing. Operating an AI takes huge computing power, which costs heaps of money and energy. So how are people suggesting that exponential improvement is feasible? I do not get...

Attorney general going after Jeffrey Epstein’s estate says she was fired for her dogged pursuit: ‘My bar license, my integrity were more important to me’ (fortune.com)

Denise George knew from the beginning that she was going up against powerful players on Wall Street over their supposed links to Jeffrey Epstein. But she soon sensed that she was also up against forces here at home, in the US Virgin Islands, where the financier seemed to have preyed on women and girls with impunity....

Don’t know why people are downvoting you, allegations are serious. He’s an abuser if his sisters claims are true and there’s a lot of them over a long span of time, they’re consistent, and the dude was fired for lying to the fucking board of directors.

Classic rich family squabbles. I do fucked up shit, mommy and daddy bail me out and target weakest of brood. Pretty standard stuff unfortunately it seems to me.

Too much to be likely according to fucking who? You have the audacity to not only doubt her direct statement with no logic other than “too shitty to believe”. This is why abusers and manipulators are effective.

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Pretty common to have a hard time with details when your subconscious literally shields you from it.

What harassment campaign are you referring to? His sisters claims of a multitude of abuse?

You and every other abuse denier ought to think twice about doubting someone who’s clearly asking for help, even if they turn out to be a lying greedy shit stain. The alternative is that, if you’re wrong about it being a lie, you make someone’s hell 20x worse and give abusers power. You stand nothing to lose by standing by someone asking for help.

If you go through my comments, it’s easy to tell I’m a devils advocate addict. But when it comes to abuse claims there a pretty easy default stance you can take by siding with the abused or completely abstaining from making any judgment calls on either side until more info arises. Sometimes no stance is best.

Not to mention the reason the dude was fired from the company… sounds like a he’s a pretty classic example of a manipulative and controlling person.

Lastly need I point to rape claim statistics, and the rate at which ceos in America are sociopaths??

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Consistent claims for years.

Proven evidence of behavior from the brother.

You are correct though, innocent until proven guilty. But that doesn’t mean I can’t form a reasonable narrative based off of the claimed evidence, consistency, and direct examples (including recordings from her podcast) of behavior from the brother. Brother is older than her, and in a rich family. Brother goes on to business time. Sister is struggling with wide variety of mental problems and illness - wouldn’t be that out of pocket for family to be hard on her if frustrated.

Idk I think the key takeaway here ive come to is that he should be considered innocent because they don’t have physical evidence available right now. I’ll be editing my other comments.

@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

We’re in agreement on innocent until proven guilty. But that doesn’t remove the public’s opinion. Both sides are being critically looked at, so as a whole I guess we’re doing the right thing in questioning.

I just find it odd that a good natured sibling would knowingly send a sibling who has asked for money from you in the past a fucking diamond made from their father’s ashes.

That behavior right there to me starts to paint a pretty specific picture in my minds. I mean come on. Throw out all the allegations and look at just the stuff that’s provable immediately (if she took a pic of the diamond and some texts). She mentioned the abuse to her mom when she was young in a way that was consistent with abuse victims stories and there is not shot in the mother loving world that some little kid is gonna magically shit out those same patterns.

There, to me, is motive for him to act the way he has. There is evidence that he has purposely lied or withheld info from people (a board of directors nonetheless).

The dude who wrote the LW post,which was a beautiful example of good neutral writing, was nearly immediately banned on Twitter. Interesting that the same banning techniques that Annie mentions. Could be coincidence, maybe banning on Twitter happens more now with musk in charge - not sure.

This stuff just piles on and on. It just fits way damn well. He’s still innocent until the law is involved but I have to side with the alleged victim in this case, for this reasoning. I can’t see what facts could possibly come to light to change the specific things I mentioned in the paragraphs above. The sad reality, like I said, is that there’s a fair amount of actual, abusive nut jobs with money and power and they brush these little family affairs under the rug

Constantly.

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

The crux of the issue is that he has supporters. You can claim don’t give him money as a soln for those who don’t like him but there’s still plenty of morons who still worship at his alter.

People will always think celebs are only ever attacked bc of their status so long as they fit into their own in group.

Part of me wonders if it has anything to do with, and how much, bandwagon feminism and not true feminism. Ik that might sound incel-energy but I really don’t think it is. I’m not convinced that mental health or any of the other underlying systemic issues that men face were ever properly solved or supported. If you go with a political stance of fuck the wrong people into the dirt with no remorse because they’re assholes, you kinda just give them more ammo to breed more assholes because you’re the asshole to them.

I think if we all looked at ourselves first, then looked at how others feel, then look at how we behave when knowing both sides, we’re setting up a stronger and stronger form of empathy the more aware we are.

I really don’t think most people would be such pricks had they not grown up in that sort of environment and had proper support for trying to correct inefficient behaviors, communications and so on. Not yo mention other pressures people might face for a wide variety of things like sex preferences, race, class, living situation, home life, addiction, etc. We barely can behave with people of our own caliber and then you wanna throw minorities in the mix? No shot.

As always the devil is in the details. This article is about another article (Washington post, yall ever notice they get a lot of secondary coverage?) referring to a survey conducted by the sierra club (sierraclub.org/…/www.sierraclub.org%2Ffiles%2F202…)

They looked at 800 dealership responses from June to November of 2022. The number of dealerships asked are ratio’d with state population of dealerships. Supposedly this is sufficient statistically but the reality is:

They talked to 800 out of 18,000 franchised dealerships. They didn’t even touch on “private” dealerships which are closer to 60,000.

To imply that even the majority of dealerships are pushing against EV sales seems a bit off. Not the whole story.

For example, I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy an electric car if they can’t afford the repair prices, batteries, headlights, etc.

Just my 2c - looking forward to any conversation we can strike up

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not, there are 60k private dealerships in the US and they weren’t even included in the original survey the Washington post article mentions which is what this article is written on

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Statistics or not, the fact remains that there were thousands of dealerships not accounted for. Human choices and interactions that weren’t experienced. So to generalize to every dealership or even most dealerships is dismissive of human choice and paints an inaccurate picture.

The correlations they draw from this data are far out of the bounds of what the stats actually say and what they do not say. Their data acquisition is sparsely outlined, this isn’t a research paper that was properly conducted. It’s a rando poll that all these news orgs like to pop up to mislead the public by bending the data to fit their narrative. Par for the course of the Washington post.

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

One glaringly obvious “oddity” was the fact that they did representation based on state by state average, but then lumped each state into a group and then tried to say that was representative of the nation? How does that follow? Should it not be based off the nations as a whole if we’re making those generalizations? Margin of error being 3% of thousands is a lot of dealerships.

All I’m saying is that people need to excercise caution when it comes to statistics. These might be statistically sound measurements but the story they actually tell is much more specific. The data only tells you what you measured, meaning is derived.

For example, remember the chip shortage? Wonder why they all had such a hard time getting those cars in. Wonder how many of those dealerships if they could get EVs would sell them regardless of the opinion of one franchise owner - because business swings at its own pace. If that owner pushed against them they’d just fire him and hire someone else who won’t have a problem with it.

Maybe they don’t sell EVs because the populace legitimately doesn’t want one.

They also mention “translating answers to yes or no” what does that entail? Why was a critical data transformation not explained in detail??

They make no effort to explain any potential conflicts or any errors with their paper whatsoever- this is a boutique poll presented inappropriately and will be misconstrued by the media as always and echoers.

Don’t lump this poll with real data science.

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

I was under the impression I had to pay more for a “winterized” version of the car so cold temperatures didn’t kill the battery, do you know if maybe this maintainence/replacement thing is more so a problem for cold places in terms of pricing? I’ve just heard numerous stories about teslas and the repair costs so that’s where that opinion had come from. The only thing I ever heard about other models was the battery and any electrical work if you need it done for some reason.

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Will you elaborate so we can discuss where I went wrong or did you just post this as an insult to feel better about yourself (idrk why else you’d come with a fork to people quietly eating their soup)

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

K

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Because the headline is saying that dealerships won’t sell them period. Which would include used ev vehicles, which is my entire point. The data they collected made little to no effort to distinguish exactly what they were measuring for - new sales by franchised dealerships that were sample sized based off state to state (region to region) as an explanation for a national average/consensus. It doesn’t make sense to me but maybe there’s an aspect about sample sizing I’m not fully grasping.

Believe it or not I too went through high school science which specifically and religiously looked at statistics p error and all that fun stuff. Perhaps an aspect has faded from memory and I’m way off but I have yet to have 1 personal actually explain where I’m missing understanding or just flat out wrong just quips and insults so I’m not so convinced. Where am I misunderstanding?

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

12ft.io is what I used

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Poor wording at best - what exactly in my analysis is wrong regarding the sampling size. They based off state by state, then grouped into regions and then tried to generalize to the whole country, despite not talking to any private dealerships which are a significant populace.

Im being genuine too, nobody has specifically said what was wrong and what the “right interpretation” was.

Not one. You’ve gotta understand where I’m coming from on this aspect id hope. This isn’t sarcasm or anything else - please work with me to correct my understanding.

Okay so you’re arguing pedantics. Let’s do it.

Can you find any official global sources that define terrorism vs an act of war?

I couldn’t but I only checked for a short while.

stevedidWHAT,
@stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world avatar

Arguing pedantics = conversational way of saying that you are being pedantic.

Define terrorism not war crimes, obviously. Nobody was arguing for the definition of war crimes, and just because something isn’t a formal war crime, doesn’t mean it’s not something else (which would possibly include but not limit to only terrorism)

Surely the last set of games and Bethesdas trajectory is solely the fault of the devs despite being across several game universes and still somehow pumping out the same shit you’ve been playing for 20 years now LOL.
